Biden Administration Declassifies 1973 CIA Briefs About Chile

The State Department says this “demonstrates our enduring commitment to the U.S.-Chile partnership.“

The Department of State finalized the declassification of two of the President’s Daily Briefs (PDB) given in 1973, which discuss the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) role in the Chilean military coup that same year. The Government of Chile requested the declassification of these documents, allowing them to more clearly see how the CIA perceived the historic unrest in their country and what actions they decided to take in light of their perceptions.

“Along with the thousands of documents previously declassified, the release of these PDBs today demonstrates our enduring commitment to the U.S.-Chile partnership and is consistent with our joint efforts to promote democracy and human rights in our own countries and around the world,” the Department of State said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary of State Antony Blinken to seek God’s direction as he heads the State Department.
  • For State Department officials as they declassify government information from the past.
  • For wisdom for the president and administration officials as they interact with foreign leaders.
